Coconut Grove Train Station

Train station proposed plan, section, and elevation

"I remember when this was a parking lot."

The Coconut Grove train station is a stop along Miami's Metrorail system. The land in front of the train station is currently programmed as a parking lot for train passengers. Residents also use the swales of this parking lot as a dog park and the mostly vacant spaces are areas where children play.

Our project aimed to create a structured development that was anchored by the train stop in order to encourage the use of public transportation.

Our design is pedestrian oriented so I suggested we use classical architecture to drive the style of our buildings. This style is directly related to human proportions and the occupation of space performed by the human body. Our design is tiered so that the neighboring homes in the community are bordered by small scale shops and town homes. The main square terminates at the Coconut Grove train station.
